Ok then, now that I’ve gotten my nerd on for the morning….
I decided to go with my idea from yesterday and pick the ugliest possible color palette that I could come up with. Now, if you like these colors please don’t get offended that I called them ugly. People’s personal tastes are different. Some people find peacock-blue atrocious, which I’ll never understand, but if that’s what they think then that’s cool with me. I say this because I posted this drawing on Facebook a few weeks ago, and one of my friends (another artist) left me a really nice comment about it, and I replied with something like “yeah, I picked every color I thought wouldn’t go together well and tried to make it as gaudy as possible, but it actually ended up coming out kind of nice.” To which she responded something like “that’s funny, because my first thought was that you used all my favorite colors. I guess I’m gaudy!” Luckily she’s cool, and I don’t think I offended her. It was pretty funny though. So there you go…color preferences are VERY subjective.
Anyway, I settled on mustard yellow (possibly my most hated color ever), pale green, fuchsia, burgundy, apple green, and olive-green. I actually like a few of these colors alone, but I wanted to see how they would work together. Weirdly, there’s a lot of color overlap between this drawing and the one I just mentioned, but the results came out completely different.
On a related note, I would love to get my hands on a really good book about color theory. If anyone reading this knows of one, I would love your recommendations!
