Oh wow, 2011. I guess if I had to pick one word to describe it, that would be challenging.
It wasn’t a bad year at all, but it was definitely a year where nothing came easy. The challenge of going back to work after maternity leave and adjusting to my boyfriend and I never having the same days off work. The challenge of house hunting. The challenge of moving all of our stuff into storage and then moving it all out again two days later. The challenge of dealing with a longer commute and less sleep. The challenge of rearranging babysitting arrangements and schedules as my older daughter started Kindergarten. Financial challenges with my car going to the shop for major repairs several times. The challenge of my computer crapping out not once, but twice. The challenge of a certain child who didn’t start sleeping through the night until a month and a half ago. The challenge of trying to do it all, but never feeling caught up on anything.
But the year had a lot of good moments too. An awesome girl’s trip to Vegas for my sister’s bachelorette party. Being the Maid of Honor in her wedding. Watching my littlest grow from a tiny baby to a rambunctious little pistol. Watching my oldest grow into her role as a sweet and loving big sister with a huge heart. Mid week summer barbeques with friends. My boyfriend and I celebrating two years together. His epic birthday celebration in the city. Starting my White Rabbit half sleeve. An awesome family Christmas. Two beautiful daughters I couldn’t love more and a guy who’s truly my best friend, makes me laugh every day, and somehow manages to put up with all of my quirks, sees me at my worst moments, and still comes home to me at night. Taking on freelance jobs. Building this site into something I’m really proud of. Learning more about CSS and HTML and web design in general than I did through two college classes. Opening my Redbubble shop.
It’s been quite a year, and I’m excited to see what 2012 will bring. I feel like I have definite ideas about what I want to accomplish, and a plan for the steps I’m taking to get there. It feels good to have a rough sketch of it all in my head.
So how am I wrapping it all up? Honestly, by throwing together a couple of appetizers, snuggling in with my family in front of the TV, and cracking open a bottle of champagne or some really good beer. And I couldn’t be more excited about my lazy cozy New Year’s plans.
